BATMAN : MASK OF THE PHANTASM
1993
In 1993 the animated style Batman came to theatres in Batman : Mask of the Phantasm. Finally fans got to see Batman : Animated on the big screen. This 70 minute animated movie had a full cast of voice artists and an excellent theatrical score by Shirley Walker who was currently working on the series. The movie featured Kevin Conroy as Batman and the wonderful Mark Hamill (Star Wars) as the Joker. In this movie a true Dark Knight style Batman was working alone and his origins where revealed as the plot unfolded.
When Gotham City's most feared gangsters are systematically eliminated, the worst is feared ; that the caped crusader is to blame. But prowling the Gotham night is a shadowy new villain, the Phantasm, a sinister figure with a troublesome link to Batmans past. BATMAN AND MR. FREEZE : SUBZERO
1998
In March of 1998 Warner Brothers finally released the much anticipated Batman and Mr Freeze : Subzero. This 64 minute animated movie was a straight to video release and an instant hit with video stores as its sales rocketted. In this movie animators used state of the art equiptment to produce amazing animation and Michael McCustion added some great music which had a familiar Batman style. In this movie Batman was joined by Robin as they race to save Batgirl from Mr Freeze.
The ultimate Batman adventure explodes into non-stop, animated action when the caped crusader's chilling nemesis, Mr Freeze returns to Gotham City to kidnap Barbara Gordon who is better know as Batgirl. In their desperate quest to unravel the mystery, Batman and Robin discover Batgirl's dissappearance is all part of Mr Freeze's fiendish plot to help his wife dying. He will do whatever it takes to save his wife even if it means putting Batgirl 'on ice' forever.
BATMAN BEYOND RETURN OF THE JOKER
2000
Fans of Batman and Batman Beyond were promised that this upcoming direct to video release would fill in the gaps in animated history about what happened to Tim Drake and what happened the last time Batman and the Joker fought.
When the Joker returns to Gotham City to cause mayhem yet again Terry must find out what happened between Batman, the Joker and Tim Drake, the third and final Robin.
When released Return of the Joker cause a lot controversy with fans. Due to the violent content of the film Warner Bros. decided to release an edited version of the movie. After much fan criticism and pressure from fans and creators WB finally released the original unedited version of ROTJ in April 2002. Both editions of the movie are currently available on video and DVD.
